Public Comment Requested on
Proposed Amendment to the 2008-2010 State Plan for Independent Living
to Enable Additional Funding for Virginia’s Centers for Independent Living

As the planning body for Independent Living in Virginia, the Statewide Independent Living Council creates a new State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL) every three years.  The Plan is used to guide funding priorities and assist in funding innovative ways to deliver advocacy and independent living options for Virginians with disabilities.

The American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA), which provides short term funding for States, has given Virginia an opportunity to receive some of those funds for Centers for Independent Living.  In order to receive the funds, Virginia’s current three year (2008-2010) State Plan for Independent Living must be amended accordingly.

To view a copy of the current 2008-2010 Plan and the proposed amendment, please visit www.vasilc.org and click on the links provided.

Public comment is critically important to the Council, and comments on the proposed amendment will be welcomed.

Send your comments to the Statewide Independent Living Council’s Administrator at rhonda.jeter@drs.virginia.gov no later than October 16, 2009.

The next Council meeting, to be held on Thursday, October 22, 2009, at the Department of Rehabilitative Services, will also include an opportunity for public comment at the beginning of the meeting.  Visit  http://www.drs.virginia.gov/officedetails.asp?key=5  for the location, directions, and further contact information.
